Concrete slab floors are designed to be stable and durable. That is not to say that they're immune from damage, but they can last a lot longer than other flooring types. With that being said, the risk of damage due to shifting soil or water is still present - especially if your concrete slab was installed improperly! From basement floors to office buildings, all indoor concrete slab floors are susceptible to shifting soil. Voids often form below the concrete. Not to mention, concrete can sometimes be built over poorly compacted soil and can settle, specifically when water enters the surface, causing uneven concrete.
